What a delightful short video following two of the most prominent pioneers in mobile technology integration into education, Elliot Soloway and Cathleen Norris, in their quest to ensure America’s youth are actually getting it—learning with a boost from technology, that is. After 10 years and $20 million worth of research and development, Elliot and Cathleen, along with their team of experts, have now introduced an affordable, workable solution to classrooms across the country that actively connects students with 21st-century curriculum in an engaging manner. Flexible, intuitive, individualized, and progressive platforms for students is what they’ve been advocating for decades. Now, timing, technology and support have converged to make it all happen. Check out the video, which has a bit of that old On the Road with Charles Kuralt feel to it, but with the enthusiasm
and passion of Elliot Soloway. While Elliot has long ago made a name for himself as a University of Michigan professor at the university’s schools of Education, Engineering and Information and is a longtime mobile advocate, and Cathleen has been a past president of ISTE, together they continue to lead the way in transforming education through technology with GoKnow, a mobile solution for education. “Within five years, every K-12 student in America will be using a mobile handheld device as a part of learning,” says Elliot. In some ways, that may already be true—but GoKnow is now making it so in a more meaningful way. This is a very inexpensive, leading-edge solution and is where a lot of things are headed currently. Expect to see more of this in the future, and stay tuned for a more in-depth interview here on EdTech Digest on these issues of mobile learning.
