The year is drawing to a close, but not without a large burst of innovation opening up. A distinguished list of innovators and leaders re-imagining education feel that current pedagogical approaches are insufficient for preparing billions of students seeking higher education globally, and what we need are a whole lot more leaders, entrepreneurs and thinkers for the future. Organizers of the second annual Reimagine Education Conference have brought this idea into reality, as academics, university leaders, edtech entrepreneurs and venture capitalists converge on December 7-9, 2015 to network and showcase their innovations. Thought–leading and inspirational speakers at the series of presentations, keynotes, receptions and awards ceremony include: William Rankin, Director of Learning for Apple; Jaime Casap, Chief Education Evangelist at Google; writer and economic and social theorist Jeremy Rifkin; Noodle’s Founder and CEO John Katzman; Jim Shelton of 2U; Anant Agarwal of edX, Pam Grossman, Dean of Penn Graduate School of Education; Kathleen deLaski, founder of Education Design Lab, and many more. Innovative pedagogies that produce improved learning and/or employment outcomes for students is the focus. Any early stage innovations with clear potential outcomes, pedagogical experiments with demonstrated results, and excellent teaching delivery are under intense scrutiny, competing for a total of $50,000 in funding. QS Quacquarelli Symonds, in partnership with The Wharton School SEI Center of the University of Pennsylvania joined forces in 2014 to launch the first global competition to identify the most innovative approaches in higher education to enhance learning and student employability.
