This edtech company empowers teachers to transform instruction reaching 3 in 5 school districts across the U.S. Through the combination of software that merges multimedia with real-time student feedback, ready-to-run digital content designed in partnership with respected publishers like Common Sense Education, PhET and Readworks, and unparalleled educator support, Nearpod is changing how teachers are integrating technology into the classroom.

“Today’s students, teachers, schools and districts face immense challenges complicated by competing hardware technologies and quickly changing curriculum,” says Guido Kovalskys, co-founder and CEO of Nearpod. “We’re preparing classrooms for the 21st century by delivering innovative, standards-based, engaging digital content supported across all devices and are deeply honored to have our work recognized by such a prominent award.”

With a catalog of over 6,500 standards-aligned lessons for K-12 topics from digital citizenship to algebra, the company provides robust learning opportunities for students around the country. This news comes on the heels of six new Nearpod partnerships spanning LMS integrations with Canvas and Schoology as well as the launch of hundreds of new lessons created in partnership with leading authorities like BBC Worldwide. Additionally, in 2017 Nearpod was recognized for the second year in a row as one of the fastest-growing private companies by the Inc 5000.

“There are now thousands of edtech companies worldwide shaping the future of education. We are proud to recognize Nearpod for their tremendous growth and spirit in bringing solutions to educators, students, and schools,” says Victor Rivero, Editor-in-Chief of EdTech Digest. “The people behind this company have held on, pushed forward, and come out winners. Their achievement is reflected in continued expansion and adoption, and dedication to quality and innovation as they continue leading a digital shift in learning.”

Company of the Year is a separate honor apart from The EdTech Awards. Nearpod was selected from a wide field of edtech companies with particular consideration given to the EdTech1000 Companies Transforming Education list, and entrants of The EdTech Awards 2018 (last year’s cohort, not this year’s, results of which have already been published here). Company of the Year designation is not a part of The EdTech Awards, excepting that entrants are also given consideration for this honor (results of The EdTech Awards 2019 will be announced in March 2019).

Factors considered in arriving at Company of the Year determination include: reach, growth, pedagogical clarity, efficacy, results, user feedback, workability, company culture and leadership, innovation, persistence on a given course, agility, quality control, product development and improvements, technological soundness, ease of use, setting a good example, other exemplary qualities, and general potential; in brief, innovation, leadership, and trendsetting in the field of education technology.
