Study Island from Edmentum

Edmentum’s Study Island is a K-12 test preparation, practice, and assessment program. It was launched in 2000 as a fun practice tool to help students achieve the depth of understanding they need to translate their classroom learning to success on state assessments. Over the past 18 years, Study Island has grown from one state–Ohio—to supporting all 50 states and D.C. The Cool Tool Award-winning program is used in over 24,000 schools by more than 150,000 educators.

Study Island covers all core subjects and several elective subjects and boasts a 600,000 plus item bank including 13 different technology-enhanced item types. Its flexibility supports a variety of implementations. Students answer questions on a standards-aligned topic and work to achieve the passing standard. More than 20 games are available, and to motivate students to do their best, games are only played when questions are answered correctly. Additionally, every item in Study Island has an explanation, providing immediate feedback and an opportunity to address misconceptions.

Practice can be student-led, teacher-assigned, or even conducted as a Group Session, allowing students participate in a live polling session, responding from their own devices. A data dashboard and robust reporting gives educators actionable data to drive instruction. Test Builder and Benchmarking features provide a more formalized assessment experience to help students get ready for test day.

The research base for Study Island’s effectiveness is plentiful, and recent findings, validated by Marzano research group, indicate that just 30 minutes of practice per subject per week will lead to growth. Learn more
