MEL Science

The developers behind this cool tool see the future of science education as a blend of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and hands-on learning, spanning both school and home use. MEL Science, with its new VR chemistry app, takes invisible atomic and molecular level chemistry concepts and makes them visible, and in turn, understandable experiences at a human scale. Students can ‘fly’ inside various molecules, build their own in a pioneering atomic level makerspace and take quick quizzes to test their understanding.

Making abstract concepts intuitive is one of the highest value use cases for VR; MEL has developed an effective learning resource, proven to engage students and improve test scores (as shown in the Randomized Control Trial from New Jersey Institute of Technology, 2019).

Building fundamental laws of nature into a gaming engine to deliver a ‘world first’ in VR learning, MEL Science has integrated the knowledge and experience of several well-regarded scientists and teachers who recognize the challenges that chemistry teachers face in the classroom.

The lessons are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core in the US. Each lesson is 3-7 minutes long and has been designed to integrate seamlessly into the classic lesson flow; making the subject more visual and comprehensive.

“MEL Science is to bring virtual reality to education,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
“Greatly improves the understanding of chemistry,” is how Gartner put it.
“The experience is as much social as it is sensory,” from Forbes.

EdTech Digest awarded MEL Science a Cool Tool Award for “Best VR/AR Solution” as part of The EdTech Awards 2020. Learn more.
