HONOREE PROFILE | by Victor Rivero
The Inside Our MIND podcast takes a look at the challenges facing education that MIND Research Institute is working to address through research, technology, and strategic initiatives. This flagship podcast launched in February of 2018. It is created and hosted by Brian LeTendre, Director of Content and Communications at MIND.
In the twenty-plus episodes since the podcast’s launch, Brian has held conversations with subject matter experts in and outside of MIND. Topics are diverse and range from using social media for educator professional development to understanding effect size and its importance as it relates to evaluating studies of the impact of education technology programs.
Some best-received episodes include Anthony Kim, CEO of Education Elements, discussing his new book The New School Rules: 6 Vital Practices for Thriving and Responsive Schools; James Tanton, Mathematician-at-Large for the Mathematical Association of America, revealing how Global Math Project came to be; and Andrew Coulson, Chief Data Science Officer at MIND, describing the need for a paradigm shift in edtech evaluation.
Each episode published also includes an accompanying blog post hosted on mindresearch.org. The blog post lists topics covered and additional resources pertinent to each episode. Those blog posts have received over 5,000 views, cumulatively.
Looking ahead, some immediate goals for the podcast include hosting even more educators and subject matter experts with diverse experience, transcribing each episode, and continuing to produce at least one episode per month. The podcast earned a top spot with a “Best Edtech Podcaster / Podcasts” Leadership Award as part of The EdTech Awards 2020 from EdTech Digest.
