Surgent CPA Review co-founder Liz Kolar set out to create a new kind of CPA Exam prep course. By combining her 25-plus years of CPA Review teaching experience with state-of-the-art technology, the result is Surgent’s award-winning course (Cool Tool Winner for “Best Adaptive Technology Solution” — part of The EdTech Award 2021), fueled by proprietary adaptive learning software called A.S.A.P. Technology™.
Their adaptive technology solution has resulted in markedly better pass rates as well as far fewer hours of study compared to other CPA exam prep companies. While National CPA Exam pass rates have averaged around a 50% over the past 3 years, students who have used Surgent consistently passed 88% of the time. And while other courses take as much as 200 hours to complete one section, their students are ready to pass with 46 hours of study, on average.
A student starts by completing a specially selected cross-section of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs). Their answers enable the software’s algorithm to gauge their knowledge across all CPA Exam content areas, which, in turn, is used to generate a hyper-personalized study program.
They then move into the Study Phase, where they get “Daily Surge” cards with recommended study material, paired to their specific knowledge gaps. Because each student learns differently, they let you choose which type of study material you’d like to review, including tailored suggestions within their bite-sized video lectures, digestible reading material, MCQs, and simulations.
