Here’s a cool tool: it’s a comprehensive learning environment purpose-built by educators to provide a superior learning experience and drive strong learner outcomes in higher education. It’s called Engageli, and with built-in research-based pedagogy and data-driven learner engagement, universities and organizations can improve the learning experience and users can create more meaningful connections.

Founded in 2020 by Dan Avida (see interview here), a serial entrepreneur with over three decades of tech experience, his wife Daphne Koller, former Stanford professor and Coursera co-founder, and Serge Plotkin, emeritus computer science professor at Stanford, the platform is optimized to make it easy for in-person, remote, blended, synchronous, and asynchronous learners to seamlessly learn together.

Unique among online learning platforms, their classroom has learners seated in smaller groups at virtual tables to promote peer-to-peer learning, collaboration, and community in classes from small seminars to large lectures. Tables also easily enable instructional approaches like active learning, reflective thinking, and inquiry-based learning.

Asynchronous Playback Rooms provide flexibility for learners while fostering active, collaborative learning and deeper peer-to-peer connections, much like the synchronous Engageli experience. Available 24/7 through the secure classroom link, learners can join a Playback Room alone or in groups of up to 10. Engageli Playback Rooms provide an opportunity for learners to engage with class material on their own time, to make up missed classes, review previous class recordings, or collaborate with their peers.

Optimized so that even low-bandwidth users can view all participant video feeds and shared video resources without degradation, the platform’s focus on effective learning makes it well suited for non-traditional learners who often struggle to adapt to a typical classroom setting and benefit from multi-modal flexibility.

The platform is designed for accessibility and to protect learner privacy with state-of-the-art encryption. By default, learner video and audio are not recorded, unless they raise their hands to address the entire class.

Browser-based and compatible with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, it also offers mobile access through an iOS Apple mobile application, with Android in development. Instructors can utilize third-party content, instructor-generated content on Engageli, or native learning content, as well as test learner comprehension with integrated formative assessments. Instructors and administrators can also view or download real-time learner attendance and engagement data within the product, allowing them to provide tailored feedback and adjust class approaches. Institutions can also use learner engagement data to gain a greater understanding of learner interactions with the instructor, content, and each other to create meaningful learning experiences.

Engageli seamlessly and securely integrates with the most popular Learning Management Systems (LMS), including Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle, and authentication procedures prevent disruptive intrusions or unauthorized access.

The platform protects user personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures. Enterprise-grade security is built-in and used within the institution’s infrastructure. All partner data is shielded with secure data access.

For these reasons and more, Engageli is a Cool Tool Winner for “Best Higher Education Solution” as part of The EdTech Awards 2022 from EdTech Digest. Learn more.
