In the midst of a digital transformation of all facets of civilization—with an eye on education in particular— emerges a new feature from the editors of EdTech Digest we like to call “old school/new school.” We hope it assists you in considering the course and rate of change in learning technologies. With education being one of the most under-digitalized sectors of society, there are yet plenty of examples of technological innovations in the world of learning—even if they haven’t yet permeated the entire sector for lack of access, funding, political will, or other reasons. But in looking back at artifacts from the late 1990s, the late 1890s, or even further to those relics from ancient civilizations—is change necessarily better?
