Marty the Robot is unlike any other STEM robot used in education. A fully programmable humanoid robot with big moves and an even bigger personality, Marty helps introduce children from as young as five to the world of coding and robotics in a fun and imaginative way.
Students love using Marty because it is a mini robot version of themselves. Standing on two legs, with arms that move independently and a face with expressive eyebrows that convey human-like emotion, there is a physical resemblance in Marty that no other robot can match (unless you are prepared to spend upwards of $8,000). Having a human form, from a design and engineering perspective, means that Marty can perform a great many more different types of actions than a rolling robot and that makes Marty a much more appealing proposition for learners to explore. Being made out of robust plastic-molded parts means that Marty can withstand the rigors of this hands-on exploration.
Beyond the nuts and bolts, Marty is equipped with a surprising amount of tech and can be up and running within minutes using the MartyV2 app over Bluetooth or webapp, lasting for 2-3 hours on a single charge.
Standard features include motor position sensors, acceleration and tilt sensors, color and Infrared sensors and LED disco eyes; students can also access a big sound library that includes pre-recorded sounds and musical instruments as well as the ability to record custom sounds. Marty can be used alongside both micro:bit and Raspberry Pi and improvements are released regularly on the app and then updated automatically on users’ devices.
As a piece of hardware, Marty helps kids see concrete results from abstract concepts – Marty’s reactions correspond directly and instantly to the code sequences built by the programmer, a simple yet very significant reward that engages the learner in a much more profound way.
Offering excellent breadth of learning progression from unplugged and block-based programming right through to real-world text-based coding language, Python, Marty is a flexible learning tool that grows with students, and is an exceptional ‘out-of-the-box’ STEM learning solution. Learn more.
