For decades, paper hall passes have been a routine but limited tool in K–12 schools, offering little visibility and inconsistent enforcement. Introduced in January 2026, GoGuardian Hall Pass replaces paper passes with a digital system designed to give schools clearer insight into student movement during the school day—while now layering in AI-powered analysis to help administrators act on that insight more effectively.
Students submit hall pass requests from any device, and teachers can approve or deny them with a single click, often directly within the GoGuardian Teacher interface. Approved passes are time-bound and destination-specific, with real-time visibility for staff through a live dashboard that shows who is out of class, where they are going, and how long they have been away. The system is designed to reduce classroom interruptions while providing greater transparency across campus.
Administrators can configure school-wide rules, including limits on hallway occupancy, time restrictions for specific destinations, and controls to prevent certain students from being out at the same time. The platform uses AI to surface usage patterns—such as peak hallway traffic or frequent pass requests—helping schools identify trends that may require policy adjustments.

Smart reports allow administrators to ask questions about hallway activity in plain language and receive targeted analysis without building complex queries or manually filtering data. Leaders can generate on-demand insights such as which students had the most passes in a given week or how many passes were issued during a specific class period. Reports can be converted into recurring daily or weekly summaries and automatically delivered to selected staff, establishing consistent oversight routines without adding to administrative workload. By distributing insights across teams, smart reports function like a virtual team member, aligning staff around shared data and freeing them from manual analysis.
Site scan adds a proactive layer of weekly hallway review. Each week, the system analyzes site-wide data and configuration settings to detect anomalies and potential risks—such as repeated student overlap, congestion zones, rooms over capacity, excessive pass durations, or policy violations. Findings are prioritized by risk level and paired with specific, actionable recommendations, such as creating new rules to prevent certain students from overlapping or adjusting time limits for high-traffic locations. Site scan also flags configuration gaps that may be enabling problematic behavior, helping schools strengthen policies before issues escalate.
Additional updates further streamline hallway management. Hall Pass can now generate printable badges with QR codes or barcodes for fast, one-click sign-in at kiosks, adding a reliable layer of verification. Visual room icons make it easier for students and staff to quickly identify origins and destinations when creating passes.
Throughout the platform, student privacy remains a core design principle. Student personally identifiable information is not shared with AI systems, and insights are intended to support staff decision-making rather than monitor individual students in real time.
Hall Pass integrates with platforms such as Google, Microsoft, Clever, and ClassLink, and works alongside other GoGuardian safety tools to support a more connected approach to school operations and student safety.
