Classroom technology may need limits—but not all screen time is equal. The 2026 Savvas Educator Index, based on a national survey of 1,709 public K–12 educators, found that 82 percent favor limiting classroom screen time, while 92 percent distinguish between passive and instructional technology use. Expectations also vary by age: 76 percent of K–2 teachers believe students should spend less than an hour a day on screens, compared with more than 40 percent of middle and high school teachers who favor one to two hours. Yet educators still see value in purposeful use, with 63 percent reporting that school-provided technology increases student engagement. Practice and skills-building tools ranked as most valuable, followed by interactive or adaptive learning platforms.
