Somehow or other you skipped the transition from school for a few to universal, free, public education, and, in the course of that transition, John Dewey and William James, and a kind of education that involved (rather than excluded) parents and community. Big gap between Early and Modern education in your chart: the entire premise of universality, which most surely was NOT the pattern as late as the 1880’s and 1890’s.
