Concentric Educational Solutions has launched a new 90-Day Summer Pilot Program designed to help school districts tackle chronic absenteeism and reconnect disengaged K–12 students before the new academic year begins. The initiative combines human-centered outreach with Concentric’s proprietary voice-to-narrative technology, transforming conversations with students and families into actionable insights that schools can use to strengthen support systems and improve attendance outcomes.
The national pilot cohort will be led by Ivory A. Toldson, Ph.D., Chief of Research at Concentric Educational Solutions and one of the country’s leading experts on chronic absenteeism and student engagement.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, chronic absenteeism—defined as missing 10% or more of school days—reached a high of 31% during the 2021–22 school year following the COVID-19 pandemic. While rates have improved to 23% in 2024–25, millions of students remain disconnected from consistent learning opportunities.
Concentric’s approach recognizes that absenteeism is often rooted in deeper challenges that traditional attendance interventions fail to address, including housing instability, transportation barriers, health concerns, trauma, and caregiving responsibilities. Through real-time outreach, home visits, and family engagement, the company’s voice-to-narrative technology captures authentic student and caregiver perspectives, helping districts uncover the underlying causes of disengagement and respond more effectively.
The 90-Day Summer Pilot Program includes three major components:
Districtwide Root-Cause Analysis. Led by Dr. Toldson, this phase combines ethnographic research with real-time engagement data to identify the specific factors driving absenteeism within each participating district.
Hands-On Summer Outreach and Reengagement. Concentric’s trained community support teams conduct home visits, relationship-based phone outreach, and personalized family engagement efforts throughout the summer to reconnect students before the first day of school.
Strategic Reporting and Action Planning. District leaders receive comprehensive reports and targeted recommendations that translate community insights into sustainable reengagement strategies for the school year ahead.
