Lauren Sanchez Gilbert, Ed.D, BellXcel

As the CEO of BellXcel, Lauren Sanchez Gilbert, Ed.D., is a nationally recognized leader of a nonprofit that empowers schools and organizations with innovative solutions, services, and resources to advance the quality of youth experiences outside of the school day. She oversees Arly, BellXcel’s software solution and services, SCRI, BellXcel’s consulting and evaluation services division, and RISE, impact initiatives to direct resources to qualified youth program providers in rural and indigenous communities. 

Her background as a YMCA director of youth programming, special education teacher, and assistant superintendent for a large school district in Massachusetts led her to BellXcel in 2011. She served in leadership roles prior to being named CEO in 2017. For six years, she’s been the driving force behind the company’s shift from a direct youth program provider to an innovative software-as-a-service provider, enabling thousands of program staff and administrators reach nearly a half million children across 36 states. Her mission is “to ensure that youth-serving organizations operate quality programs grounded in equity and evidence and expand families’ access to learning experiences outside the classroom.”

In June 2023, Great Places to Work independently collected data from 76 employees and the were:

  • 95% of BellXcel employees say it is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company.
  • 98% say management trusts people to do a good job without watching over their shoulders.
  • 98% say people look forward to coming to work.
  • 98% say they feel good about the ways BellXcel contributes to the community.

For these reasons and more, Lauren Sanchez Gilbert, Ed.D, BellXcel is The EdTech Leadership Awards 2024 Winner for “Best Founder(s) / CEO – Startup”  as part of The EdTech Awards from EdTech Digest. Learn more
